TIVO Series 3 Review

When the first TIVO came out years ago, I was the first in line to get one. It was love at first sight.

Several DVR’s later, I decided to go back to the original and purchase a Series 3 TIVO.

The Series 3 costs $699 retail and there was no way I could or want to pay that much. So I checked out EBay and patiently waited… after bidding on about 5 auctions (only to have some jackass outbid me at the last couple seconds!) I finally nabbed one. I think I got a good deal: Brand New for $375 (including shipping).

After the initial setup and living with it for a week, here are my thoughts.

Google Apps Hates Me

My Web host, Dreamhost, has a new service where you can host your e-mail on Google. Since I have several sites, I thought funneling all my e-mail accounts into one service would be much easier than to log onto 4 e-mail accounts every day.

Dreamhost makes everything simple with one click installs, so when I clicked onto Google Apps and signed up, I thought everything was fine.

A couple hours later, I logged onto my site and Google had totally taken over my home page. There was Google Calendar, news, etc. My site was gone. WTF??

I logged onto Google Apps and tried to figure out what went wrong, attempting to get my site back. I couldn’t figure out what had happened. So, the only thing I could think of was to delete my Google Apps account.

I waited a little while for the changes to take effect till I logged onto my site again. Now all I got was a blank screen.

I contacted Dreamhost and they told me it looked like I accidentally told Google to host my site. AHHH!! I quickly went and had Dreamhost re-host my site again. When I logged onto my site once, I still had nothing.

I was getting scared now. I had just worked on the site most of the day and got it to how I wanted it to look. It was finished and now I was afraid I would have to start all over – redoing my theme and trying to add a months worth of posts.

I logged into my sites folder via FTP and there was nothing there. It was totally empty and I suddenly came to the realization that I hadn’t backedup the site. I was screwed.

Luckily, I saw that an older version of the site was stored when I updated to WordPress 2.5. I copied everything over and opened up the site one more time, crossing my fingers.

There it was. I had all my posts and the only thing missing was an ad I had recently put up.

It was a great lesson for me to begin backing up my sites regularly… but still:

Google Apps hates me.

Sirius Stiletto 2

I got a Sirius Stiletto 2 last week and I am loving it.

I really didn’t need it but since I’m trying to better organize and manage my time better, I decided to take the plunge. I got it off of EBay for $230 where it retails for around $300 – so I saved a couple of bucks.

The main reason I got it was because I love Howard Stern. I’m retarded for him. I usually end up listening to his replay on Howard 100 but that doesn’t usually end till 2. So, I’m stuck in the house till then usually. I know, I’m an idiot.

With this baby, you can set it to record over a 100 hours of music or talk radio. Transfer mp3′s from your music collection and add memory buy adding a microSD card. It has built in WiFi and and from what I understand, it even makes you breakfast. All this and it’s portable! I used it ridding my bike this weekend.

I know Sirius and XM are (hopefully) about to merge and that there will be newer and better products out on the market soon, but using this is a great way to add hours to my day. If you’re thinking about getting one, do yourself a favor – buy it!

Why does this make me laugh?

I just can’t stop laughing at this picture.

Miracle Hangover Cure

It’s no secret that I like to drink. I love it love it love it. In a perfect world, my job would be to drink. On my tax forms, I’d put: Drinker.

But I can’t. So I drink as an amateur.

Most everyone who imbibes usually suffers from some form of hangover the next morning. I did as well. And the bad part was that the older I got, the worse the hangovers were. I couldn’t have this. So, I set out to find a hangover cure.

I tried all the remedies. Alka Seltzer, pills from GNC, drinking water before bed, drinks from 7-11 claiming it would rid your of your hangover and a million other things I can’t even remember doing. But none of it worked. Nothing. I was still waking up feeling like crap.

Then I stumbled upon the cure. This is safe for you to take and won’t kill you like Tylenol (you know you’re not supposed to take Tylenol for hangovers, right?) I’ve talked to doctors about this and all of them have said this was fine to take.

The cure is: (more…)

Verizon Wireless Card

Verizon PC5740 card

I have a Verizon Wireless PC card – PC5740 (courtesy of my girlfriend’s work). It’s the best thing ever. If you have the money to spare, do yourself a favor and get one. I use it every time I travel. I can surf the internet while I’m in traffic – jealous much?

Anyway, since I got my new laptop I hadn’t had a chance to used it. So I installed the program and slid in the card.

And I got the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

Nothing I did worked and everything they had about the issue on Google was over 2 years old.

I looked to see if I needed to install any Windows Updates and yes, I did. Vista Service Pack 1 was there staring at me in the face.

I installed it, put the card back in and now I’m ready to go mobile.
